Short Film Analysis: Vincent

Vincent
Below is my analysis of the short film 'Vincent'. Within this post is a presentation in which I go into deep analysis and a scene highlight in which I draw attention to.

Below is a link to a GIF I have created which displays the opening of the film. Please click the image to be taken to the hosting website and see the animated image. Personally I found that the opening uses particular codes which intrigue the audience and keep them gripped until the narrative. The use of cat is particularly effective as it immediately sets the genre and style of animation but also opens a series of questions. Who's cat is this and where is it going? As the speed of the animal is quite slow it generates anticipation for audience members. As the still shot turns into tracking, it slowly follows the cat increasing emphasis on the constructed questions.

Conclusion: I feel like this short, despite only being animation uses very effective techniques to keep the audience engaged but also ensures that the style of the film is sustained. In addition I feel that this stylised animation may be suitable within my own piece as it has a similar sinister tone. However Vincent clearly includes Tim Burton's codes which attaches the film to his brand identity. If I wish to be influenced by this I must ensure it is unique and is bound to my own style.
